Karen Clay

VP of Talent Management, Learning and Development, Johnson Controls International

Karen Clay has been with Johnson Controls International for 8 years and has been helping to transform the organization through learning, talent, and organization culture leadership roles.  Her role is inclusive of talent development, succession planning, performance, culture, employee experience, leadership and Core skills development, functional and product training for 97,000 employees, channel partners and customers. 

In her prior role at Johnson Controls, Karen led an 18-month redesign and creation of one function for corporate and the smart buildings business. The vision of the “One JCI Learning” function is to create a learning culture that enables our colleagues and partners to continually learn, develop and grow. The award-winning learning team designs, develops and delivers highly effective product training, designs enterprise-wide development programs, innovates with new learning technologies and enables the growth for leaders at Johnson Controls.  

Prior to Johnson Controls, Karen held Talent, HR and Learning leadership roles at General Electric, VWR, Cigna, Wawa, and various tech and venture-backed companies over the last 25 years.

Karen is a member of the Forum of Executive Women, i4cp Chief Talent & Learning Officer board, Association for Talent Development (ATD), and Learning and Development Philadelphia. Karen’s volunteer work is focused on advancing women through providing pro-bono career coaching and serving as a board member for 7 years and 2 years as board president of the Women’s Resource Center of Southeastern PA. Karen holds a B.S. in Marketing and International Business from Penn State and an M.S. in Organizational Dynamics from University of Pennsylvania.
